<AIKI-GAMA> SQUARE PLATE

The forest flower studio <AIKI-GAMA> on the banks of the Aiki River, in Nagano Japan.
Using locally produced materials for glaze, pottery is made in a larch forest at an altitude of 1,300 meters.
Keeping in mind everyday use, modernity and relieved warmth coexist.
The process of “medome” is as follows. At first, rinse grains of rice or potato starch with water and keep the water for the next step. Then, boil in low heat for 20mnts the rice-water and the pottery into the pot and cool it for one night, so that the rice-water soaks into the inner surface of the pottery and seals it. The purpose of this procedure is to make the clay robust and prevent it from cracking or leaking.
